This movie based on its a book by Peter Cameron gives a complex insight into the dimensions of youth, adolescence, mental illness and portrays the circumstance of juggling all of these simultaneously. This book follows  opinionated and thoughtful teenager James Sveck, living in modern day New York City. Despite his dysfunctional family members to his constant battle with depression, this protagonist is always able to make humor of a situation. A film that challenges the norm: that a young adult’s life only consists of party hopping, trips to the mall and dense conversation.

The movie is available now on Netflix.
