The State Fair of Texas has returned again for the 113rd year. Every year brings new attractions, food, and events, and 2019 is no different.
This year, the theme is “CELEBRATING TEXAS CREATIVITY”, opening up the door for some peculiar and intriguing attractions.
First up, a new ‘World of Birds’ show has returned following a six year hiatus. In addition there is the “Fiestas de Marionetas”, which is sponsored by McDonald’s. It is a colorful and vibrant marionette show that celebrates culture and creativity.
A new film exhibit has been introduced entitled “Texas Cinema”, produced by the Dallas Historical Society and the State Fair of Texas. This attraction is centered around the history and impact of actors, directors, and other creators from the Lone Star State. “Fair Focus: The Photography of Kevin Brown” displays the 16 years that Kevin Brown, a photographer with more than 38 years of experience, has captured the fun and beauty of the State Fair.
Seven new rides have been added to the beloved Midway, along with more food areas and games. “Contain Yourself(ie)” is a selfie station around the historic Lagoon, where fair goers can stop and pose by ten one-of-a-kind, beautifully painted shipping containers.
Inside the Women’s Museum, “Casa de Chocolate, A Sweet Indulgent Affair” allows for visitors to take a look at not only the history of chocolate, but allows for them to demo and take classes on working with chocolate. Within the African American Museum, ‘The Kinsey African American Art & History Collection’ will be exhibited for not only the duration of the fair, but for months afterwards as well. This collection celebrates the achievements of black Americans from 1595 to present times, and is considered “one of the most comprehensive surveys of African American history and culture outside the Smithsonian Institution.”
As usual, the Red River Showdown will take place at the Cotton Bowl, and Fletcher’s Corn Dogs will be present.
