Expressing creativity// Heath High School is one of the 21 schools that is represented in the 2019 Rockwall ISD District Art Show. Families and friends can come view the art of students throughout all of Rockwall. “The District Art show is an amazing opportunity that enables the students of Rockwall ISD to showcase their artwork to the community. I really enjoy seeing the entire district coming together exhibiting various forms of art, both 2D and 3d, from K-12th grade,” said Julia Deleon.

The RISD District Art Show returns to display the creativity of students in the Rockwall School District. On April 5th at 5 p.m and April 6th at 11 a.m at the Dr. Gene Burton College and Career Academy everyone can come view art and enjoy food and entertainment.

I think it is so important to have an event for our visual art students. I am beyond grateful that Rockwall ISD supports the arts and provides this experience for artists, families, and educators to all come together for a weekend of art enrichment,” said Julia Deleon, a teacher involved in the art program at Rockwall High School.

The art show has been around for decades as it was established at Rockwall High School prior to Heath. This year, however, it is the first time it will be located at the new Gene Burton College and Career Academy.

I am very excited about holding the show at the CCA for two reasons: First, at the CCA, we will be able to have the entire show on the ground floor, making it more easily accessible to all members of our community.  Second, the building was designed with so much attention paid to natural light, which is going to be so great for viewing the work,” said Justin Clumpner, a RISD art staff member.

The art show provides viewings for three-dimensional and two-dimensional art to give opportunities to students to demonstrate their artistic abilities in various forms of art. An estimated 1200 people attend annually and that amount applies for this year’s gallery as well. All 21 schools in Rockwall ISD will be represented in the district art show for all to come view.

“I most enjoy looking at the entire journey these students are on.  I walk down to see the elementary students’ work and then through the middle school sections, and I can almost see a linear progression of the growth our program offers our students.  It is also bittersweet to see my seniors at the end of their journey, while at the same time exciting to see the work of the students I be working with in a few years,” said Justin Clumpner.
